2019-20 Regular Season Game 1 LA Kings Vs Edmonton Oilers

1st period analysis
Kings give up a goal early in the period to Connor McDavid as he uses Kings defenseman Matt Roy’s skate to give the Oilers an early lead. The Kings counterattacking early on in the first few minutes. Good puck possession from the Kings in the offensive zone. Edmonton has the edge when attacking in the offensive through the first five minutes of the game. Oilers goaltender gives the puck away to Anze Kopitar who passes it over to Dustin Brown for an easy goal to tie the game up. Drew Doughty drawing a slashing penalty 5 minutes into the period. Kings kill of the penalty. The Kings get a counterattack from their own zone and dump the puck behind the net as Mike Smith misplayed the puck as Kyle Clifford steals the puck and gives it Trevor Lewis to give the Kings a 2-1 lead. Jeff Carter takes a tripping penalty in the corner of the Kings zone. The Oilers set up the power play as James Neal gets a rebound off a Connor McDavid shot. Both teams having good possession and breakouts into the offensive zone. The Kings had a strong breakout from their own zone, Dustin Brown makes a nice pass to Anze Kopitar who kicks the puck to his stick and buries the puck home to regain the lead for the Kings. The Kings take a one goal lead into the first intermission. 

1st period 
53 seconds into the game the Oilers scored to make it 1-0. The goal was scored by number 97, the goal was McDavid’s (1st of the game and 2nd of the season). Then at 4:13 the Kings tied the game up at 1-1. The goal was scored by number 23 Dustin Brown, the goal was his (1st of the game and season). At 9:05 the Kings took their first lead of the season by a score of 2-1. The goal was scored by number 22 Trevor Lewis, the goal was his (1st of the game and season). Then at 10:23 the Oilers tied the game up 2-2. The goal was scored on the power play by number 18 James Neal, the goal was his (1st of the game and season). At 14:49 the Kings regained their lead and made it 3-2. The goal was scored by number 11 Anze Kopitar, the goal was Kopitar’s (1st of the game and season).

2nd period analysis
Kings started the period in the penalty kill. The Kings get a rush up the ice but only to turnover the puck on the quick change and let the Oilers counterattack, but Jonathan Quick makes an easy stop. The Oilers having pressure early in the offensive zone but Jonathan Quick makes a nice save near the post. Both teams are having good offensive chances. Kings get a good breakout as Sean Walker made a nice stretch pass to Austin Wagner who fired a shot on goal. The Kings failed to get the puck out of their zone after the Oilers kept the puck in the Kings zone, Connor McDavid was in the corner passed it out to Leon Draisaitl who slid the puck over to Zach Kassian to tie the game for the Oilers. Kings get their first power play of the game as they had some pressure in the offensive zone and drew the penalty. The Kings did not equalize on their first power play of the season but had lots of good chances. The Kings had some good pressure after the power play and a good hard shot from Austin Wagner. The Kings top line has been doing a good job at being in front of the net and getting good shots on goal. Both teams had great pressure but no goals were scored as the period ended tied at 3-3. 

2nd period
At 4:51 the Oilers tied the game at 3-3. The goal was scored by number 44 Zach Kassian, the goal was his (1st of the game and 2nd of the season).

2nd period

3rd period analysis
Both teams have been unable to generate quality scoring chances throughout the first few minutes of the period. Kings were switching up defensive parings. The Kings maintained some pressure into the offensive zone and Kyle Clifford fed the puck to Micheal Amadio to give the Kings a lead once again. Kings get another power play in the game. Dustin Brown takes an Interference penalty and the power play is done as the teams play four on four. Right of the faceoff the Oilers tied the game as rookie Joakim Nygard chips the puck past Quick on the backhand. The Oilers get a holding penalty and the Kings get a rare four on three power play. The game is returned back to a four on four only for the Oilers to another penalty and the Kings are back on a four on three power play. The Kings get a powerplay goal as Drew Doughty fires a howitzer on net to regain the lead again. The Oilers get a counter attack and tie the game at 5-5 Darnell Nurse fires home the goal. After the goal the Oilers gained momentum and possession in the offensive zone. Sean Walker gets a penalty for Interference on Connor McDavid. The Oilers capitalize on the power play and take the lead, as James Neal pokes the puck right past Jonathan Quick. The Kings had multiplie chances at the end of the game but could not find the back of the net. 

3rd period
At 3:26 the Kings made it a 4-3 game. The goal was scored by number 10 Micheal Amadio, the goal was his (1st of the season and game). Then at 5:24 the Oilers tied the game up at 4-4. The goal was scored by number 10 Joakim Nygard, the goal was his first career NHL goal. At 8:19 the Kings regained the lead and made it a 5-4 game. The goal was scored by number 8 Drew Doughty, the goal was his (1st of the game and season). Then at 10:10 the Oilers tied the game up at 5-5. The goal was scored by number 25 Darnell Nurse, the goal was his (1st of the game and season). At 13:28 the Oilers took the lead to make it 6-5. The goal was scored by number @8 James Neal, the goal was his (2nd of the game and season). 

3rd period
