1st period analysis

Slow start to the game as there have been low shot totals throughout early in the period and midway through. The Kings passes are not crisp and are not tape to tape. The Kings could not find a clear lane to shoot late in the period on the power play. The Coyotes get a two on two and use their speed to get around the Kings defense and score. Kings get a penalty late in the period.

At 5:56 in the 2nd period Arizona made it 2-0. The goal was scored on the power play by number 8 Nick Schmaltz, the goal was his (1st of the game and 4th of the season).

2nd period analysis
The Kings managed to kill of the power that Arizona started at the beginning of the period. The Kings have been taking bad penalties throughout the game so far. Arizona scores on the power play, Jonathan Quick was upset due to his stick being knocked out of his hand and the Coyotes hurried it past him. Kings have a turnover and turn it down the ice for a shot on goal. The Kings have been dumping the puck into the zone which has resulted in more broad play than scoring opportunities. The Kings are getting more shots on goal late in the period. Kings get a breakaway short handed but can not put the puck in the back of the net.

Kings penalty to Jake Muzzin 2 minute minor for Slashing. Time of the penalty 4:05 of the 2nd period.
Kings penalty to Jeff Carter 2 minute minor for Slashing. Time of the penalty 15:19 of the 2nd period.

At 14:15 in the 3rd period to cut the Coyotes lead in half to make it a 1-2 game. The goal was scored by number 27 Alec Martinez, the goal was his (1st of the game and 3rd of the season).

3rd period analysis
Kings have had some nice transitions into the offensive zone but still can not score despite getting shots on goal. The game is getting scrappy after the whistle. The energy level in Staples Center very low due to the Kings not being able to do much tonight. Kings get another power play yet are unable to score. Kings crashed the net and finally found the back of the net and got a goal back to cut Arizona’s lead in half. The Kings are putting the pressure on Arizona.

Coyotes penalty to Jakob Chychrun 2 minute minor for Hi Sticking. Time of the penalty 10:58 of the 3rd period.
