2023-24 NHL Regular Season Game 22 LA Kings At Montréal Canadiens

1st Period Analysis: only 41 seconds into the game Kevin Fiala took a hooking penalty along the far boards. The Kings managed to kill off the penalty. Canadiens have had a good couple of attacks and lots of offensive zone time early on. Halfway through the period the Kings got some momentum and had more breakout opportunities. Drew Doughty went coast to coast and stuffed home the puck on a 2 on 1 break to make it a 1-0 game. The Candiens have had more chances but Kings goaltender Cam Talbot made solid saves to keep it a 1-0 Kings lead. The Kings have also played really smart defensively as they managed to force the Canadiens to shoot from the slot, and have forced Montréal to create turnovers in the offensive zone. Late in the period the Kings took their second penalty of the game as Drew Doughty was called for boarding. The Candiens had a lot of opportunities and chances on the powerplay but once again the Kings defense stepped up to deny them of a powerplay goal.  Quinton Byfield collected a pass from the middle of the ice from Adrian Kempe as Byfield drove hard to the net and tucked it past the Canadiens netminder to make it a 2-0 game late in the period.

Kings goal scored by number 55 Quinton Byfield (1st of the game 7th of the season), assisted by number 9 Adrian Kempe and number 11 Anze Kopitar. Time of the goal 17:46.


1st Period Penalties: Kings penalty to number 22 Kevin Fiala 2 minute minor for Tripping at 41 seconds. Kings penalty to number 8 Drew Doughty 2 minute minor for Boarding. Time of the penalty 14:52.

2nd Period Analysis: The Canadiens came out flying as they have managed to get a lot of zone time early on in the period. Midway through the period the Kings got some more chances in the offensive zone and a same scuffle occured after a Kings player shot the puck after the play was over. Moments after the scuffle Kings forward Phillip Danault took the Kings third penalty of the game. Montréal continued to apply the pressure on the powerplay but could not convert on their third of the game. The Kings continued to keep the puck in the offensive zone and get some more zone time throughout the halfway mark of the period. The King got their first powerplay chance of the game with the final few minutes of the period. Quinton Byfield grabbed his 2nd goal of the night on a great feed from Anze Kopitar near the back of the goal as the Kings converted on the powerplay to take a 3-0 lead into the third period.

2nd Period Goals: Kings goal scored by number 55 Quinton Byfield (2nd of the game 8th of the season), assisted by number 11 Anze Kopitar and number 22 Kevin Fiala. Time of the goal 18:15.

2nd Period Penalties: Kings penalty to number 80 PL Dubois a 2 minute minor for slashing at 5:48. Canadiens penalty to 55 Micheal Pezzetta 2 minute minor for Roughing at 5:48. Kings penalty to number 24 Phillip Danault 2 minute minor for Hooking at 6:53. Canadiens penalty to number 28 Christian Dvorak a 2 minute minor for Tripping at 17:04.

3rd Period Analysis: The Kings did a really good job on the defensive end throughout the period. Trevor Moore had a great breakaway opportunity and he buried the puck home over the Canadiens goalkeeper's high glove to make it a 4-0 game. With the last 2 minutes of the game Andres Englund and Micheal Pezzetta fought which Englund won the fight. The Kings held the Canadiens off by a score of 4-0.

3rd Period Goals: Kings goal scored by number 12 Trevor Moore (1st goal of the game and 13th) assisted by number 22 Kevin Fiala and number 8 Drew Doughty. Time of the goal 7:58.

3rd Period Penalties: Canadiens penalty to 55 Micheal Pezzetta and Kings penalty to number 5 Andreas Englund 5 minutes each for Fighting time of the penalties 17:10.
