2020-21 Regular Season Game 2 Minnesota Wild Vs Los Angeles Kings

1st Period analysis: 21 seconds into the game Minnesota scored to take an early 1-0 lead. The Kings did a good job at getting into the offensive zone early on by getting pucks into the offensive zone. The Wild early on are getting more zone time and pressure in the offensive zone. Austin Wagner had two great scoring opportunities as he skated down the wing with a burst of speed, but just missed the net. The Kings take a Too Many men in the ice penalty, but the penalty gets offset as Minnesota takes a penalty to make it 4 on 4 hockey for a short period of time. The Kings get a powerplay for a minute and five seconds due to the Kings penalty from earlier expiring. The Kings can not convert on their first powerplay of the game. The Kings have had a hard time getting into the offensive zone to get chances on net. The Kings have also managed to get some pucks in deep but could not keep the puck in the zone to get good quality chances on net. The Kings get their second powerplay of the game midway through the first period. The Kings have not had clean shots on target on this powerplay. The Kings failed to convert on their second powerplay of the night. Trevor Moore had tried to win a loose puck race but the Wild goaltender Cam Talbot beat him to at, as he got out of his crease to play the puck and the Kings were called offside. The Kings got a gritty goal late in the period to tie the game at 1-1. Jonathan Quick makes an outstanding save near the end of the period. The Kings have some momentum heading into the second period of play.

2nd Period analysis: Both teams get good scoring chances early in the period. The Kings take another penalty early on in the period.  The Kings killed off the penalty and are perfect so far for the season. Minnesota has had chances in the offensive zone as they were jamming at the net but the Kings hold off the attack. The Kings have had good rush chances down the wing and put good shots on net and continued some great zone time as well. The Wild have also gotten great chances on net with some good zone time. Drew Doughty fired a laser from the top, and the puck deflected off Blake Lizotte’s skate and in the back of the net to give the Kings a 2-1 lead. The Kings and Wild both receive offsetting minor penalties so we will play 4 on 4 for the second time in the game. The Kings get a turnover which lead to a two on two break as Jeff Carter fired a shot and Andreas Athansiou picked up the rebound to give the Kings a 3-1 lead. Both teams skated 4 on 4 for the third time in the game, but the Kings get another short timed powerplay. The Kings have had lots of offensive zone time in the period. The Kings took another penalty and for most of the penalty could not get it out of the zone and Minnesota gained a lot of zone time. The Kings look to hold on to the two goal lead in the 3rd period.

3rd Period analysis: The Kings start the 3rd period off with a powerplay as Minnesota takes a penalty early on. The Kings get some really good time in the offensive zone on the powerplay. The Kings take another bad penalty early in the period.  Minnesota gets a goal off a bad line change made by the Kings. The Kings have had some great attack rushes into the offensive zone as well as some great scoring opportunities, but they could not put home another goal. The Kings have been getting more zone time towards the end of the game and have done a good job at limiting Minnesota’s zone entries. The Kings have kept the puck in the offensive zone to kill time off the clock. The Wild managed to get some chances in the zone but could not put them in the net. The Wild tied the game with 1 second left in the game. The game went to overtime for the second game in a row.
