2023-24 Regular Season Game 37 LA Kings At Tampa Bay Lightning

1st Period Analysis: Tampa Bay had early chances as they controlled the puck in the offensive zone and had some momentum early on. Carl Grundstrom had a great shot on net and Adrian Kempe picked up a great rebound opportunity but could not get by Tampa Bay’s netminder. Halfway through the period the Kings were able to get on the powerplay, but could not do anything on the man advantage. Tampa had more zone time and shots on net after the King powerplay opportunity. Both teams head into the first intermission deadlocked at no score.

1st Period Goals: None

1st Period Penalties: Lighting penalty to number 73 Conor Sheary 2 minute minor for Hooking at 8:45. 

2nd Period Analysis: The 2nd period got off to a hot start as the Lightning had early chances in the period and midway through the period both teams were trading chances and the Kings had some great quality chances but couldn’t find a good lane to shoot the puck. Tampa Bay also had good chances on net and had lots of pressure in the offensive zone. The Kings took the lead on a great pass from Jordan Spence to Philip Danault to give the Kings a 1-0. The Kings continued to get more zone time and controlled the puck in the offensive zone during the final five minutes of the game. The Kings grabbed another goal as Matt Roy Buried home a wrist shot to the top of the left corner to make it a 2-0 Kings lead. The Lightning scored off of a scramble in front of the net to cut the Kings lead in half by a score of 1-2. After the goal was scored a lengthy review was held which led to the goal being called back due to goaltender interference by Anthony Cirelli Interfering with Kings goaltender Cam Talbot. The Kings head into the second intermission with a two goal lead.

3rd Period Analysis: The Lightning had two powerplays to start the period and the Kings managed to kill off both of them to stay perfect on the penalty kill so far. The Kings also managed to keep Tampa out of their zone and play really good defense midway through the period. Midway through the period the Kings managed to block shots and keep the Lightning out of the offensive zone. Tampa managed to get a goal as Tyler Motte slotted one home off a turnover from Alex Laferrie. The Lightning managed to tie the game up late and force overtime.
