2023-24 Regular Season Game 36 LA Kings At Washington Capitals

1st Period Analysis: Early on the Kings had some really good quality chances on net within the first five minutes of the period. The Kings took a penalty early on and managed to kill off the penalty. Both teams traded chances midway through the period. With about five minutes to play the Capitals had some good looks and controlled the puck well in the offensive zone. The Kings gained more offensive zone time in the final two minutes of the period but could not get anything on net. Both teams entered the end of the first deadlock at zero.

2nd Period Analysis: The Caps struck first as Nic Dowd caught at nice saucer pass from Nicolas Abue-Kubel and Dowd fired home a backhand shot and beat Cam Talbot via his glove side. The Kings had a barrage of shots on target but Darcy Kuemper made some great stops to deny the Kings of tying the game. The Kings tied the game moments later on the power play as Adrian Kempe fired home a rocket of a shot from the left circle and beat Darcy Kuemper on the high blocker side. The Kings got another powerplay moments after tying the game up at 1. The Kings were unsuccessful on converting on the second powerplay. Despite not executing on its second powerplay opportunity the Kings had good puck movement and more offensive zone time midway through the period. The Kings took the lead after a great breakout that was started by Kevin Fiala. Fiala skated up the ice and picked up the puck after fanned shot by Phillip Danault and Fiala fired home the shot to take the lead. After the goal both teams had multiple rushes and was back and forth down the ice as both teams had some great looks on net. The Caps tied the game with five minutes left in the period as Dylan Strome caught a pass from Alex Ovehckin after the Kings turned it over in the offensive zone. Both teams had a lot of action for the 2nd period of play.

3rd Period Analysis: The Kings got an early goal in the period the regain the lead at 3-2 as Kevin Fiala buried his second of the game off a faceoff win by the Kings. The lead did not last for long as the Caps fired right back as Nicolas Abue-Kubel tied the game off of a good feed from Nic Dowd. Both teams traded chances midway through the period. The Kings were able to get a lot of zone time in the offensive end during the final eight minutes of the period but couldn't find the back of the net. The Caps scored in the final minute as John Carlson fired a shot from the left top slot and made it a 4-3 game. The Caps held on for the final minute to win the game.
