2018-19 Regular Season Game 51 LA Kings Vs New York Islanders

Good Evening Kings Fans! Your LA Kings come of their scheduled bye week as they start a five game road trip to the Tri State Area and Metropolitan Division teams in Washington D.C. and Boston. The Kings begin the road trip as they take on the New York Islanders at the NYCB Live (formerly known as the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum). The Islanders played here from their inaugural season in 1972 until 2014, the team will be playing at NYCB Live/Nassau Coliseum and the Barclays Center in Brooklyn until their new areana in Belmont Park is finished in the next couple of years. Matt Luff has rejoined the Kings after the NHL and AHL All Star Weekends. Nate Thompson will not be with the team for this game due to being sick with the flu. Trevor Lewis and Jonny Broadzinski, practiced with the team and head coach Wille Desjardins said Lewis could return on this road trip.

Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk hip checks Anze Kopitar, which led the Islanders to throw a few hard checks on the Kings. Kings are getting good chances later in the period. Brendan Leipsic was battling down low on the Kings powerplay. The Kings as well had some good chances as well. Kings take a penalty late in the period. The Islanders were firing shots on the Kings end and Jonathan Quick was making insane saves.

Kings are having a hard time getting it out o their zone as the Islanders are putting pressure in the zone. Kings get a powerplay early on. The Kings can not get anything out of their zone entries in the Islander zone. Dion Phaneuf lays out Islanders forward Anders Lee. Kings got some good chances shorthanded. Islander forward Devon Toews came flying down the middle and Jonathan Quick made a good save on the rookie. Ilya Kovalchuk had a great chance to score as he made a nice deke around Islanders goalie Robin Lehner but got denied as Lehner stretched out and made the save. Kings have been sustained more pressure in the Islanders zone in this period.

3rd period analysis
Islanders coming out strong and Jonathan Quick is looking like the world class goaltender and making great saves, Kings are stick checking well. Both teams have been very physical tonight. Kings are getting good shots on the powerplay. Kings are getting good chances midway through the period. Jonathan Quick has played a great game in goal. Anze Kopitar made a nice deke and passed the puck to Dustin Brown who took a shot and it hit Ilya Kovalchuk and he scored as he redirected the puck of his skate and in to the net to take the lead. 31 seconds later Islanders forward Mathew Barzal tied the game up at 2-2. The Islanders put pressure in the Kings zone and the Islanders scored off a deflection with 2 minutes remaining.
