The LA Kings continued it’s a long road trip to open up the 2024-25 regular season, as they head down to Anaheim as they take on the Anaheim Ducks in the first Freeway Faceoff of the season.
The Kings headed into tonight’s matchup off of a 4-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens and the Ducks are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Colorado Avalanche.
The first period did not see much action as it was a low shooting affair despite the Kings taking a total of two penalties late in the period.
The second period had a little more action to it as there were not a lot of shots early on, but the Kings got two power plays but were unable to capitalize on it and went scoreless through two periods.
The Kings broke through in the third as Anze Kopitar made a stretch pass to Adrian Kempe who buried a shot that beat Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal short side on a breakaway.
The Kings doubled its lead as Alex Lafferire stoke the puck Ducks forward Jackson LaConbe and ripped home a shot right past Lukas Dostal to make it a 2-0 game.
The Ducks cut the Kings lead in half with a 1:44 left in the period as Ducks forward Ryan Strome tipped the puck past Kings goalie David Rittich.
The Kings scored a pair of empty net goals to make it 4-1 as Kevin Fiala scored the first and Mikey Anderson grabbed the second one.
The Kings next game will be the final game of the road trip as the team heads out to Las Vegas as they will face the Vegas Golden Knights.
