Good Evening Hockey Fans! Your Los Angeles Kings start up on a three game Pacific Division Canadian road trip tonight as they take on the Edmonton Oilers.

This will be the third meeting of the season between the two clubs, as they faced off in Los Angeles earlier this season with both teams splitting the series.

Both teams head into tonight’s game after playing against a pair of rivals over the weekend. The Kings head into tonight’s game off of a 3-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks, while the Oilers are coming off a 6-3 loss to the Calgary Flames.

Both teams are tied on points with 68 each as the playoff race begins to tighten towards the end of the regular season.

Tonight’s game will be a 6:30 PST/7:30 MST from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. 1st Period Analysis: Both teams were feeling each other out, until Kings forward Blake Lizotte took a holding penalty halfway through the period. Only nine seconds into the powerplay the Ducks scored to make it a 1-0. The Ducks continued to apply to the pressure in the offensive zone and had multiple shots in the high danger area in front of the net. With under five minutes to play the Kings got their first powerplay of the game. Kevin Fiala fired a rocket of a shot that rang off the post and in to tie the game at 1-1. Both teams were trading chances in both teams' offensive zones. Both teams also had a really high shot total as well.

2nd Period Analysis: Both the Ducks and Kings had lots of scoring opportunities in the first five minutes and the Kings took a penalty for slashing. The Kings managed to kill off the penalty, and both teams managed to start hitting more midway through the period. A scrum between the teams which started after a post whistle hit by Ducks forward Frank Vatrano. Due to the scrum both teams get players sent to the penalty box, but Ducks forward Ryan Strome was also sent to the box which gave the Kings a 5 on 4 powerplay. Moments after the the game restarted the Ducks scored to take the lead of a tip in by Sam Carrick. The Kings got their third powerplay of the game and connected on a shot from Drew Doughty to tie the game up at 2-2. The final few minutes the Ducks had more zone time and pressure in the offensive zone.

3rd Period Analysis: The Kings managed to get their fourth powerplay of the game midway through the period but could not capitalize on the man advantage. The Kings also had a lot more zone time midway through the period as well. Both teams had chances with under five minutes to play. Both teams couldn't find the back of the net so the game goes to overtime.

The Kings will be taking on the Edmonton Oilers for the second time this season. The Kings made some front office moves as Jim Hiller will be making his Interim Head Coaching debut tonight alongside new assistant coach DJ Smith.

Kings Fire Head Coach Todd McLellan

Over the NHLa All-Star Weekend it was announced by the Kings front office that Head coach Todd McLellan would be televised of his duties as the teams head coach and assistant coach Jim Hiller would take over for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. 

Hiller got hired with the Kings during McLellan‘s third season with the team. He was tasked with helping the special teams when he was an assistant coach with the team. Hiller looks to help the Kings push for the playoffs as the team will take on the Edmonton Oilers next weekend. 


Hiller’s last head coaching job was with the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hickey League 2013-14. This will be his first job coaching an NHL franchise.
